A longer walk, day trip or car journey with your dog is easier when a few essentials are always within reach. Use this list as a simple checklist before leaving home.
1. Water
Water is essential, especially on warm days and during physical activity. Adjust the amount to your dog's size, the temperature and the length of the trip.
2. A drinking container
A foldable bowl or compact bottle with an integrated drinking section takes up less space than a regular bowl. It should be easy to clean and convenient to use with one hand.
3. Leash and, if useful, a long line
Even if your dog has reliable recall, local regulations or conditions may require a leash. In unfamiliar places, an additional line can also give you more control.
4. Identification
An ID tag with a phone number and up-to-date microchip details can make it easier for someone to contact you quickly if your dog gets lost.
5. Waste bags
The easiest approach is to keep a permanent supply in a walking bag, in the car or attached to the leash.
6. A small amount of food or treats
On longer outings, treats can be useful as rewards or as an emergency snack. Keep your dog's normal diet in mind and avoid introducing random foods while travelling.
7. A towel and basic cleaning items
A small towel is useful after rain, a swim or a muddy walk, especially before getting back into the car.
